Properly forged carbon steel knives will out-perform any other kitchen knife, but do require a minimal amount of care (hand washing and drying after each use) to stay in peak performance. Our Carbon Steel Knife Care Kit, which includes specially formulated blade oil and handle wax, can help keep your STEELPORT and other premium carbon steel knives looking their best for years to come.

Care of a Carbon Steel Knife is very simple – here is what we recommend:

  • Hand Wash & Dry: The best way to care for a Carbon Steel Knife is simply to always rinse and dry it completely after each use. Avoid using aggressive chemicals, leaving it unwashed, or leaving it in water or set out wet to air dry.
  • Occasional Oiling: To keep your knife in top condition, oil it occasionally, especially if it will be stored for an extended period of time. We recommend using Camellia oil (as provided in our Care Kit) or food-grade mineral oil. Cooking oils can also be an option but they can break down and become rancid.
  • Wood Handle Care: Your STEELPORT knife features a resin-stabilized wood handle that is designed to meet the demands of a busy kitchen, but it still benefits from some minimal care to keep it looking its best. Treat your wood handle like a wooden cutting board, i.e. avoid letting it soak in water, and rub it down with the handle wax like our Care Kit Handle Wax once or twice a month.
  • Embrace the Patina: STEELPORT knives are soaked in coffee to create an initial patina on the blade, but over time, all carbon steel knives will change color and develop a natural patina based on how you use them. This is not a bad thing! This is part of the beautiful heirloom nature of the product. The unique coloring each knife develops reflects your own cooking style and favorite ingredients over the years.

Shipping & Returns

We want you to love your UncommonWares! If it's not a fit, we'll gladly accept returns of unused, stock (non-custom) UncommonWares products within 15 days of purchase. 

⚠️ NOTE - UncommonWares offers products from curated brands. Many of which have their own return or final sale policies. We will note their policy at the bottom of their product listing so it's clear. Please be sure to read each brand's return policy before purchase. ⚠️

STOCK PRODUCTS - Stock products at UncommonWares are carefully curated and often in limited quantities. If you're lucky enough to grab some UW goods before they sell out, we feel certain you will enjoy your purchases. If for whatever reason stock items purchased need to be returned, please be sure it's in new, unused condition, in its original packaging and returned to the store within 15 days of purchase. Online Orders: Shipping charges are non-refundable and any return shipping cost incurred will not be reimbursed unless the product arrived damaged or incorrect product was sent. NOTE: Only stock, non-custom/non-personalized products can be returned.

CUSTOM PRODUCTS - UncommonWares custom products are created as ordered, therefore, all personalized/custom product sales are final. It is rare, but if your item arrives damaged or is defective, it must be reported within 10 business days for replacement. Simply email 4service@uncommonwares.com with a photo of the damage and any details about your order so we can efficiently process your replacement. 

Please note that as a result of different textures and finishes colors will vary on products whether digitally imprinted or dyed. Products from separate dye lots may result in color shift. We always recommend coordinating instead of matching. In addition, what is shown on your screen may vary from your finished product. Slight color shifts are not considered defective and therefore cannot be returned nor replaced.
