The Brodie Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana 'Brodie') is a selected cultivar of our native red cedar, prized for its upright, tightly columnar form. Soft, dense, scale-like foliage holds a rich green that takes on a bronze cast in cold weather, and its fast growth rate means a screen fills in quickly. Maturing at 25 to 45 ft. tall but just 6 to 10 ft. wide, it stacks vertical privacy into a narrow footprint, making it a natural for property lines, windbreaks, and screening where a wide tree simply won't fit.
Why growers choose the Brodie
- Fast, narrow privacy. A quick grower with a tight columnar habit, it delivers tall screening without the sprawl of wider evergreens.
- Year-round green. Dense evergreen foliage screens through all four seasons and carries an attractive bronze tint in winter.
- Genuinely tough. As a native juniper it shrugs off drought, heat, poor soils, and coastal salt once established.
- Deer-resistant. Unlike arborvitae, junipers like Brodie are seldom browsed, a real advantage in deer country.
- Wide cold-hardiness. Reliable from USDA zones 3 through 9, it performs across a broad sweep of the country.
Set Brodie in a row for a living privacy hedge or windbreak, line a driveway for vertical structure, or plant a single specimen as a slender evergreen accent. Its narrow form and toughness also suit it to challenging spots where space and soil are limited.

STOCK PRODUCTS - Stock products at UncommonWares are carefully curated and often in limited quantities. If you're lucky enough to grab some UW goods before they sell out, we feel certain you will enjoy your purchases. If for whatever reason stock items purchased need to be returned, please be sure it's in new, unused condition, in its original packaging and returned to the store within 15 days of purchase. Online Orders: Shipping charges are non-refundable and any return shipping cost incurred will not be reimbursed unless the product arrived damaged or incorrect product was sent. NOTE: Only stock, non-custom/non-personalized products can be returned.
CUSTOM PRODUCTS - UncommonWares custom products are created as ordered, therefore, all personalized/custom product sales are final. It is rare, but if your item arrives damaged or is defective, it must be reported within 10 business days for replacement. Simply email 4service@uncommonwares.com with a photo of the damage and any details about your order so we can efficiently process your replacement.
Please note that as a result of different textures and finishes colors will vary on products whether digitally imprinted or dyed. Products from separate dye lots may result in color shift. We always recommend coordinating instead of matching. In addition, what is shown on your screen may vary from your finished product. Slight color shifts are not considered defective and therefore cannot be returned nor replaced.
