The Arbequina is the most reliable, heaviest-bearing olive you can grow at home — a compact Spanish classic prized for buttery, low-bitterness oil and table fruit.
Native to the Catalonia region of Spain, Olea europaea 'Arbequina' is one of the world's great oil olives. Its small, dark fruit presses into a mild, fragrant oil with notes of green almond, ripe banana, and fresh-cut grass — far softer and sweeter than the peppery oils from larger varieties. It is also one of the few olives that begins producing young and fruits dependably without a fussy chill requirement, which is why growers in mild climates and cold-climate gardeners with a sunny patio both reach for it.
Why growers choose the Arbequina
- Self-fertile and early bearing. Unlike many olives, a single Arbequina sets a heavy crop on its own, and young trees often begin fruiting within a few years of planting.
- Naturally compact. It is one of the smaller-statured olives, taking well to pruning and to container life on a patio or balcony.
- Premium oil flavor. The mild, buttery, fruity oil is a benchmark for backyard pressing and finishing — low in the harsh bitterness of bigger cultivars.
- Drought-tough once established. Like all Mediterranean olives, it thrives on heat, full sun, and lean, fast-draining soil with little fuss.
- Year-round good looks. Silvery, evergreen, willow-like foliage and a gnarled trunk give it the timeless Mediterranean character that works as a specimen or screen.
Plant it in the ground in a hot, sunny spot in zones 8 through 10, or keep it in a large pot you can move under cover for winter if you garden somewhere colder — either way it rewards you with silvery evergreen presence and, in time, a real harvest of your own olives.

STOCK PRODUCTS - Stock products at UncommonWares are carefully curated and often in limited quantities. If you're lucky enough to grab some UW goods before they sell out, we feel certain you will enjoy your purchases. If for whatever reason stock items purchased need to be returned, please be sure it's in new, unused condition, in its original packaging and returned to the store within 15 days of purchase. Online Orders: Shipping charges are non-refundable and any return shipping cost incurred will not be reimbursed unless the product arrived damaged or incorrect product was sent. NOTE: Only stock, non-custom/non-personalized products can be returned.
CUSTOM PRODUCTS - UncommonWares custom products are created as ordered, therefore, all personalized/custom product sales are final. It is rare, but if your item arrives damaged or is defective, it must be reported within 10 business days for replacement. Simply email 4service@uncommonwares.com with a photo of the damage and any details about your order so we can efficiently process your replacement.
Please note that as a result of different textures and finishes colors will vary on products whether digitally imprinted or dyed. Products from separate dye lots may result in color shift. We always recommend coordinating instead of matching. In addition, what is shown on your screen may vary from your finished product. Slight color shifts are not considered defective and therefore cannot be returned nor replaced.
