Description

In rice living we go a long way to making you feel home – in a home with a personal touch. This ceramic series is no exception. We’ve called this gorgeous series “Hand-painted” because it’s handmade and hand-painted by amazing women in Portugal. Operated by women, this company handles every aspect of production — from painting to firing to packing — ensuring a truly artisanal touch in every creation.

It takes special talent and workmanship to hand-paint ceramics, and it's an ancient craft that is slowly fading away. Not many people learn it anymore, and it's difficult to find employees who possess that skill.

The process can be intricated. Depending on the design and expression, each piece may undergo multiple firings in the kiln (oven).

First, the clay arrives in large tubes and is then machine-cut into smaller pieces. These pieces are molded using a mold called "biscuit". Then the formed pieces undergo firing in a kiln at 1050 degrees for 9-10 hours, followed by a day of drying. Once dried, they are meticulously sponged by hand to achieve a smooth surface. After another day of drying, each piece is carefully hand-painted and glazed. They are then fired again in a kiln, this time at 1030 degrees for 9 hours. This process can be done several times, depending on the design.

Finally, a logo is stamped onto the finished product, which then undergoes quality control checks before being packed for distribution.

Shipping & Returns

SHIPPING: Varies by product size and weight. Smaller items like note cards, calendars and posters ship for $9. Larger items like furniture, lighting, rugs, coolers, etc. will be determined by size, weight and distance to destination.

Turn around time: If you order products that we stock (non-personalized/custom items), your order will ship within 2 to 3 business days. If you order custom, personalized products, we ask that you allow up to 10 business days for production and then time in transit. Please note that orders during the busy holiday season may take longer. Unfortunately, we have no control over the delivery services (FedEx, UPS, USPS). Once products leave our studio + store, we have to rely on the tracking provided by the carrier. 

RETURNS: We want you to love your UncommonWares! If it's not a fit, we'll gladly accept returns of unused, stock (non-custom) products within 15 days of purchase. Items must be in original condition, free of stains, damages, or signs of use. 

STOCK PRODUCTS - Stock products at UncommonWares are carefully curated and often in limited quantities. If you're lucky enough to grab some UW goods before they sell out, we feel certain you will enjoy your purchases. If for whatever reason stock items purchased need to be returned, please be sure it's in new, unused condition, in its original packaging and returned to the store within 15 days of purchase. Online Orders: Shipping charges are non-refundable and any return shipping cost incurred will not be reimbursed unless the product arrived damaged or incorrect product was sent. NOTE: Only stock, non-custom/non-personalized products can be returned.

CUSTOM PRODUCTS - UncommonWares custom products are created as ordered, therefore, all personalized/custom product sales are final. It is rare, but if your item arrives damaged or is defective, it must be reported within 7 days for replacement. Simply email 4service@uncommonwares.com with a photo of the damage and any details about your order so we can efficiently process your replacement. 

Please note that as a result of different textures and finishes colors will vary on products whether digitally imprinted or dyed. Products from separate dye lots may result in color shift. We always recommend coordinating instead of matching. In addition, what is shown on your screen may vary from your finished product. Slight color shifts are not considered defective and therefore cannot be returned nor replaced.

DAMAGED or DEFECTIVE In the event your order arrives damaged or is defective, it must be reported within 7 days for replacement. Simply email 4service@uncommonwares.com with a photo of the damage and any details about your order so we can efficiently process your replacement.
